Analytics and Insights

Understand the key drivers of revenue in your app.

The Nami Control Center provides analytics in 2 different places.

  • Overview screen - quick highlights of the most important metrics for your app
  • Insights screen - a more detailed analytics screen with all metrics

Both screens have 2 main controls, Environment and Date Range near the top of the screen.

821

Environment Use this to select between Production and Testing and Development.

Note that on both Apple and Google Play apps Nami can automatically detect production purchases and sandbox purchases.

On Apple apps Nami can further detect if the app is running on a simulator, in a device development mode, or in a beta testing environment like Test Flight. These will all be labeled as Testing and Development.

On Google, Nami can only detect when an app is running on an emulator, which will be labeled as Testing and Development.

Nami Best Practice

To ensure the most accurate analytics data, we recommend creating separate apps in the Nami Control Center for your production app on the store and for any testing and development builds, especially where you will be making test purchases.

Date Range

The calendar picker is used to select the time range of the data displayed on the charts.

📘

The start and end times of each day are determined by the timezone set in your browser. We display your timezone at the bottom of the page.

🚧

The calendar picker does not affect the Subscription Metrics. These are the current counts for your app, independent of the date range selected.

Indication of your timezone used for analytics data.

You can open the date selector by clicking on the Calendar Icon or specifically on the Start Date or End Date to just change that one date.

435

After selecting the date range of the data you would like to see, click the Apply button.

In the calendar picker tool there are also buttons that immediately select the dates for some common searches, including Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, and Last 12 months.

Overview Screen

The Overview screen is broken into 2 sections. Metrics that apply to all in-app purchases and metrics that apply only to subscription apps.

App Metrics

Details on each metric are provided in the Metrics section below.

Let's go through all the data presented on an analytics card on the overview screen.

699
  • Metric name - the name of metric, see definitions below.
  • Total - the total value of the metric in the select date range.
  • Previous total - the total value of the metric in the preceding date range. Example: If you have selected the 7-day period of 2/08/2021 - 2/14/2021 then the preceding date range is 2/01/2021 - 2/07/2021.
  • Time series - a time series chart showing the metric by day for the selected date range.
  • Currency selector - A drop down of all currencies your app has transacted in. Note that this is the total of that particular currency that has been purchased. It is not a conversion of all purchases to USD, for example. Revenue analytics card only.
  • Percent change - the percent change of Total compared to Previous total.

All time series charts have a hover state that lets you see the metric value for any particular day. Simply hover over the line chart on desktop or click on the line chart on mobile to see the value.

Example of a hover state for line charts.

Subscription Metrics

These metrics are currently counts of the current state of your app and do not depend on the selected time range. See definitions below.

Insights Screen

The Insights screen is made up of 4 components.

  • A menu of metrics. On desktop, these are in a column on the left side. On mobile, they are in a metrics sub-menu.
  • Filters. On desktop, these are at the top. On mobile, they are in a sub-menu.
  • A time series chart
  • A table

Generally, the time series chart and the table will show the same data. In some situations where there are other relevant metrics that are on a different scale than the primary metric, these supporting metrics may be included in the table but not in the time series chart.

On mobile, you will find the Data Range and Environment options under the Filter button.

Metrics

📘

New metrics, segments, and filters will be added to the Insights screen over time.

App Metrics

Active Users

The number of users that had at least one app session in the selected time range. When looking at a total, this will be one session in the entire selected range. For time series, this will be the number of unique active users per day.

If your app does not use External Identifiers for accounts, this metric will be the same as the number of unique devices that had a session.

It is also important to note that if you do support accounts and a user has an app session both logged in and logged out in the selected date range, they would appear as 2 users instead of 1. There would be 1 active user for the logged-in account and 1 for the anonymous user. A similar situation would occur if the user switches accounts during the time period.

Paywalls Conversion Rate

The conversion rate across all paywalls integrated with Nami in your app. Calculated by taking the number of transactions divided by the number of paywall impressions.

Revenue

📘

It is important to note that Nami calculates an Estimated Revenue based on verified purchases and subscription renewals in real-time as they occur.

This is not a reconciled revenue as you would see in the store platforms such as App Store Connect or the Google Play console.

Platforms do not provide enough data to reconcile refunds or some types of failed payments, for example.

Note: Nami does not currently convert all revenue to a single currency

Nami reports revenue per currency transacted in your app. Revenue includes initial purchases and renewals for subscriptions.

As noted above, most store purchase platforms do not provide Nami with all revenue events that may occur, including refund amounts or some types of payments that are reversed or fail after the initial purchase.

Subscription Metrics

The Nami overview screen contains a table with counts for all Subscription states.

📘

Subscriptions vs. Subscribers

The Subscription Metrics table counts all subscriptions in a given state, not subscribed customers.

If your app sells multiple subscriptions for different features or content, a customer can have more than 1 subscription. Therefore your subscription numbers will be higher than your subscriber numbers.

450

Total Subscriptions

This is a count of all subscriptions that have access to your app.

Active Paid Subscriptions

This is a count of all subscriptions that are currently paying for your app. This excludes customers who may have access to an entitlement but are not currently paying for your app, including: free trials, customers who have paused their subscription, or customers that are in an account hold.

Free Trials

This is a count of all subscriptions in a Free Trial state.

Intro Pricing

This is a count of all subscriptions with Introductory Pricing. These customers have a subscription price less than the regular price.

Paused

This a count of all subscriptions that are currently Paused. NOTE: This state is only possible for users on the Google Play Store

Grace Period

This is a count of subscriptions that are in Grace Period. Customers enter Grace Period when they fail to make a payment. Customers in Grace Period still have access to their entitlement.

Account Hold

This is a count of all subscriptions in Account Hold. If a customer doesn't resolve their billing issues while in Grace Period, they will move to this state and lose access to their entitlement.

Subscriptions Not Renewing

This is a count of the number of subscriptions who have shut off auto-renewals. When their current bill-term ends, these customers will no longer be subscribed to your app.
